Abstract

1. Result of surgical treatment of 87 cases of cleft lip and 30 cases of cleft palate is reported.
2. V-excision and flap operation were the most commonly used procedures in the repair of cleft lip and langenbeck operation for cleft palate repair. A high proportion of the patients with cleft lip required additional procedures; reconstruction procedure for nasal deformity and orthodontic care. Attempt was made to reconstuct median line in the repair of cleft lip, but in most cases it was impossible.
3. In cleft palate difficulty was encountered in the repair of defect close to premaxilla since the most cases were in the age group from 4 to 9 years, and the wound margin could be sutured only with marked tension on suture line. It is suggested that in such cases interposition of prosthesis would be of great help.
